"Arg!"- Rant on Bush and Republicans.

So today I woke up turned on the news and this footage is what I saw. Don't Bush say the darnedest things?!

Ok I am a little frustrated with his speech but I'll try and keep this short and sweet.

First of all ,as Robert Gibbs points out, what is George Bush doing saying squeezing in this frankly embarrassing attack on Obama at Israel's 60th Anniversary? What does this have to do with anything? It is sad that he used his time there to politicalise the event.

Secondly, since when is talking to foes appeasement?!? This is George Bush doing what George Bush does best, using terror tactics to get his way. Of course the idea of Hitler frightens people, and this is exactly what he is aiming at. By scaring people he can direct votes to the Republican side who will most likely continue Bush's idea of solution-by-bombing.

Perhaps Bush is right. It is probably naive to believe that there is a perfect argument that will result in instant peace with the other side. But who says Obama (who is the obvious target here) thinks this. Like me I think that Obama is aiming to use a more civilized approach to dealing with conflict and getting to know the "enemy". No harm done by doing this. Jesus, it's not like Bush's ideas in the Middle East have worked out to well. Surely he realizes this?
No..no I guess not.

I think this "foolish delusion" of communicating with foes is an important first step, and does not have to be in any shape or form "negotiation" or "appeasement". Besides it has been made clear that this is what many voters want, judging by the reaction in primaries in response to the candidates speaking of their openness to speaking with with world leaders and groups. In no way would talking to world leaders be similar to the "appeasement" of Hitler that lead to the second World War.

No, Bush will not instill fear in me with his knuckle head buzz words that he relies so heavily on "Nazi, Hitler, Terrorists!!!".

Oh what am I saying how could talking ever help anything,
Bush has made such progress in his past efforts,
FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT!! ( *rolls eyes* )

I feel bad for Americans who have to put up with their governments repeated tactics of war and the people's "false comfort" that weapons can save them every time, a belief that has been brainwashed into much of the public by the fear-mongering of Bush and the American news programming.

Then there are the billions of dollars that go into their military each year that could quite simply end poverty that go into the long-term pointless efforts in Iraq that have only been continued due to Bush's pig headed stubbornness.

My message to Americans:
Please, please, please let a Democratic candidate into the White House to at least try! Either one, Obama or Clinton, for once you have two good choices!
Things can't be any worse then they were with Bush!

Acid Part 2- Another Bizarre Dream

Now for my dream!

After all this research a bizarre dream came to me!

This dream was choppy and centered around LSD and perhaps the dilemma people might face about whether to take Acid or not. Is it a positive spiritual drug as Leary says, or is it an extremely hazardous one as Nancy Reagan insisted in her 'Just say No' campaign? ( along with many others).

Anyway the dream started out with an older man ( looking back on it it seemed like this man was Ken Kesey) who planted LSD in my pocket. Mom found the tabs and freaked and I couldn't convince her that it wasn't mine.

Then I was at this big mansion (it would make sense for this to be Kesey's house) because this is where he held his 'Acid test' partys). He thought I was his psychedelic daughter (whatever that means) and I now had to pass the Acid test as an initiation's to be his daughter. Just like in the party in 'Across the Universe' there were tons of people already whirling around and laughing and such, they stood behind Kesey on a large staircase. I debated dropping the tab and in the end decided not too.. so ..he kicked me out. Then everybody started jumping into his pool that was filled to the brim with bath bubbles. Watching them in the dream I could feel the bubbles on my body as if I were swimming through them, it was intense and wondrous, and I started regretted not participating.

I went outside and met up with a friend from my university, I stopped to talk and light up a joint but it wouldn't light. I offered to share but he told me that he had stopped everything because he had had a constant buzzing in his mind that he couldn't get to stop and it frightened him. I then felt good about the choice I had made inside Ken's mansion.

Next I walked through a long, windowed hall in an academic building. Inside there was a man wearing a pro-drugs body board raising awareness about the spiritual benefits of LSD and protesting the misconceptions. This could quite easily be any of the members of the 'Merry Pranksters'.

He convinced me of his message and took me for a walk. We got into his truck, he in the drivers seat, me in the back with two other guys. One was my friend Nick, the other was a guy I know named Andrew. It was a very comfortable atmosphere in the truck and I expressed my concerns and desires about Acid. They encouraged me to try it with them. They each dropped and offered me some. I declined, I just wanted to watch.

The guy sitting to my right dropped and instantly started gaging and choking as he tried to swallow. This was the last thing that happened in the dream, it seemed quite foretelling.

I woke up with these lyrics swirling around in my mind:

"It's a happening thing...
...Love is the grooviest thing in the world until now in the world.."

'It's a Happening Thing' by Peanut butter Conspiracy.

These lyrics were kind of repeating and meshing together since I don't know all the lyrics but I could hear the exact vocals, as if I were listening to the song on the stereo. It's always like that in my dreams.. it's amazing how the songs are always so fitting and always playing when I wake up.

When I woke up I laid still looking into the dark. I started thinking about what it would be like to drop Acid and I started feeling really weird. Freaking myself out, imagining things were in my room and stuff. I was nervous, and I decided then and there that it would be horrifying to take the risk of dropping Acid. If I could get this scared and be perfectly sober think of all horrifying things I could come up with while under the influence of a hallucinogenic substance. And on top of that imagine not being able to escape the nightmare for a solid minimum of 8 hours! Eek.

Anyway this is pretty taboo topic I know, but a dream is a dream and I hate to censor myself. Besides I think it is pretty interesting. If it's telling me anything, it's obviously telling me to stay away from the stuff! :P

Acid History

A week or so ago I was researching the fascinating and brilliant minds behind the pro-LSD movement of the 60s.

I'm talking Ken Kesey of the "Merry Pranksters" and the American author. I came upon Kesey after watching 'Across the Universe' for the second time and wondering who Bono was supposed to be. Kesey believed that LSD was a way to see the world in a new light, to transcend barriers and get to know the true you. He held parties at his home with music (of the Grateful Dead), and the now stereotypical setting/atmosphere for hallucinogenics. Black lights and all that jazz.

"We're navigators, we're...aviators, we're...eatin' taters, masturbating alligators, we have no fears, we're pushing the frontiers of transcendental meditation, BUT...The weird thing is...We've never met, on this plane or another"
(Kesey talking about Leary in Across the Universe)

He and a group of other Acid guinea pigs embarked on experimentation with the drugs. As seen in 'Across the Universe' the group takes a psychedelic bus named 'Further' across the USA, notably to visit Timothy Leary, another writer and advocate of psychedelic drug use and research believing that these drugs connect you spiritually.

Here's a neat fact:
Timothy Leary ran for Governor of California, his campaign slogan was "Come together, join the party". He attended John Lennon and Yoko Ono's Montreal "bed in" and Lennon wrote Leary the song "Come Together" for his campaign song!

Tom Wolfe wrote a novel chronically the trips in his book "The Electric Kool-Aid Test".
