Wild Rose Herbal D-Tox
Today I purchased a herbal detox kit for 40 bucks! Yikes, steep, huh? I can't believe I bought it..usually I just look and decide against it. But this week something clicked while watching some stupid Detox commercial for another product on the TV. That's when I realized I'm ready! I may need this!
After buying the kit I hit up the farmers market and bought all kinds of fresh food. Beets, green onions, tomatoes, cucumber, mushrooms, Swiss chard, fresh dill, fresh basil, zucchini, strawberries, lima beans, broccoli, peppers etc. Along with dry beans that I plan to try and sprout (I've never done it before), tofu, and pre-packaged tempeh burgers for a treat. Also frozen sprouted bread (that I hope to God I will like because a loaf cost 5 dollars! Raw, flour free crackers , that cost 5 bucks for a box! Yikes this stuff is pricey!), pumpkin seeds, quinoa, millet, sandwich sprouter mix, and beans to sprout.
I went on this lovely trip with my mom. It was a great time. Next we hit up the book store where I finally bought Vegan With A Vengence, something I've wanted for a long t ime and a detox book that was cheap! Yay!!
And then we went to our favorite place, the Noodle House, where we ate some Schezuan tofu noodles, broccoli with sprouts, and mom had some fried squid. It was soooo good. I'm celebrating my last few days of diet freedom.
On Monday I'm starting.
I can't eat:
wheat/flour (ahhhh!)
meat (no prob!)
alcohol/coffee/smokes (no prob!)
Dairy (meh)
salt (no prob)
sugar (ahhhh)
Acidic fruits - bananas , pinapples etc
(but lemons, limes, oranges I'm aloud for some reason)
most nuts
I can eat:
oats
millet
quinoa - all of which I bought today
all veggies- which I should eat raw
almonds, raw pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds
all other fruits
eggs
lots of herbal tea and water
Then I take the herbal supplements with meals.
Anyway I expect this to be difficult, especially the first few days, but at the moment I see it as important and useful. A detox is supposed to cleanse the body of built up toxins that are stuck in the colon. This diet increases bowel movements, and rids the body of the bad stuff, which should decrease fatique in the long term, stop bloating, and constipation , help clear skin, and stop cravings. This diet inables all organs to perform optimally and most people lose 10 pounds if they follow the detox rules and stick to it for the 12 days.
Really I think this a big life change, and a good opportunity to learn, and better myself.
So I have Sunday and then good bye bad foods!!
Wish me luck!

best of luck katie! i've had to go on elimination diets for the allergist - not easy, but not impossible either. with mine, i had to start with just rice and water (the most non-allergenic foodstuffs on earth) and add in something new each day/week depending on what it was. that went on for a year.
i also have that cookbook! the stories are funny! (her mom sounds like a character.)
If you're looking for sympathy from anyone on a limited diet, I'm your gal! I've never done an elimination or detox diet but I'm on a permanent gluten-free and vegetarian diet so I can certainly empathize with you!
Oh and hi! *waves* I'm over from Soup's blog. I hope you don't mind random strangers dropping in. :)
I love visits from random strangers! Hah. Awesome ^_^
